What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder. People living with insomnia have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or both. Insomnia can either be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Acute insomnia is common, affecting you because of situations such as family pressures, stress, or a trauma you have experienced. You sleep for more than 30% of your life, this show’s how vital it is.

The Danger Zone of No Sleep

You, on the other hand, can suffer from chronic insomnia which affects you for longer. Most cases of chronic insomnia are secondary, meaning they are either symptoms or side effects of some other problems you are experiencing. You can also suffer from secondary insomnia caused by certain conditions like medicine or sleep disorders. You sleeping enough is far more important than previously thought.

Insomnia and Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, Insomnia is called Anidra or Nidra Nasha, an imbalance in your Tarpaka Kapha, Sadhaka Pitta and Prana Vata. But your ultimate goal in the Ayurvedic approach to Anidra is for you to fabricate Ojas. Your Ojas are a substance produced from the most subtle level of proper digestion. Ojas give you energy, clarity of thinking, active immunity. You being happy, and contentment is another by-product of you producing Ojas. You fabricate Ojas only during the deepest and most restful sleep called the Stage Four sleep, proven research shows. Your sleep is hence very important.

No Sleep and its Side Effects

Chronic Insomnia is known to create defects in your memory, concentration, libido, balance, weight gain, blood pressure and immunity.  You also affect your central nervous system, immune system, respiratory system, digestive system, cardiovascular system and endocrine system.

You having chronic insomnia can shorten your life expectancy! An analysis of 16 studies that covered over 1 million participants and 112,566 deaths looked at the correlation between you slumbering, it’s duration and death. You sleeping enough is now a proven preventative health technique.

Scary Statistics From No Sleep

If you sleep for less than six hours per night, studies show you increase your risk of death by up to 12%. Compared to people who slept seven to eight hours per night. A more recent study looked at the effects of persistent insomnia and mortality over 38 years. Your suffering from persistent insomnia could cause you a 97% increased risk of death. You sleeping is as important as diet and exercise in the long term.
